Marmottan-Monet an intimate visit

The Marmottan-Monet Museum

  • Monet – genius and artistic revolutionary, the most impressionist of painters.
  • The largest collection in the world of the works of Claude Monet, starting with Impression, Sunrise….
  • The techniques and materials used by the artist, his allusive touch and treatment of material, the intensity of his colors….
  • A former hunting lodge owned by the Marmottan family that houses a large collection of medieval miniatures and various pieces from the Empire period.
In 1932, Paul Marmottan donated his private mansion in the Bois de Boulogne to the French Academy of Fine Arts, along with his art collection made up mostly of objects and paintings from the First Empire. The museum opened in 1934, and received its first donation of works by Monet in 1957. Further donations, in 1966 and 1987, have made the museum the largest collection of works by Claude Monet in the world today. Monet’s masterpieces hang next to great works by Renoir, Gauguin, and Manet, among others.
