Versailles private apartments tour

  • Evolution of the monarchy : the court life in Versailles was ruled by a detailled protocole called Etiquette but both Louis XV and Louis XVI gradually decided to keep away from it
  • Science and technique served the king : an extraordinary clock, the very first roll-top desk in history
  • Style Louis XV : we traded precious LXIV hangings for fine white and gilded woodwork
  • The inside cabinet, centre of the political life : the king worked and received his ministers in this important room that boasts a somptuous decoration

In 1722, after living away from Versailles for a few years, King Louis XV and his court came back. The young monarch was delighted to get back to the palace where he was born. While respecting his ancestor Louis XIV’s achievement, the new sovereign commissioned works to adapt the palace to his personal use, and in order to keep away from the rough-and-tumble of public life : in the private apartments only a few privileged people could get in.

During this guided tour you will discover an intimate royal universe, muted but luxurious of course. Your tour guide will share with you little known aspects of the personality of the two last kings of Versailles, their passions and preferences.
Depending on the day of the tour and and the palace’s conditions you will either admire the royal chapel or the opera.
