Arc de triomphe guided tour

  • One of the best panoramic views of Paris : located on the historical perspective of the capital city, the one that connects the Louvre to La Defense
  • A chaotic construction : thirty years of work shook up by the hazards of political changes
  • The unknown soldier and the eternal flame : honour the ones who died on the battlefields during World War I
  • Witness of the great national events : the return of Napoleon I’s body, Victor Hugo’s funerals, the parade after the Liberation of Paris

After his victory in Austerlitz, Napoleon wanted to embellish Paris with an Arc of Triumph dedicated to the glory of French armies. Inspired by the Arc of Titus in Rome, the one located on Place de l’Etoile was set up at the top of the Champs Elysées avenue with its impressive dimensions. Patriotic hotspot, it is considered by all the French as the place indivisible from the 14 of July’s parade that takes place every year. Follow your private certified guide.

At the foot of that 100 000 tons heavy monument admire the sculpted decoration named « the departure of the volunteers » or « La Marseillaise ». During this guided tour you will discover under the Arc the tomb of the unknown soldier as well as the names of battles and officers on the walls. End up that tour with the fabulous view you will get from the terrasse at the top of the Arc de Triomphe.
