Centre Pompidou tour

  • A museum of futuristic architecture : the architects Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers created a heart irrigated by monumental coloured arteries in the centre of Paris
  • First collection of modern and contemporary art in Europe : over 100 000 artworks, the museum is often compared to the Moma of New York or the Tate Modern of London
  • A multidisciplinary museum made of 10 levels, 7500m² (>80 000 sq ft) : library, exhibition halls, auditorium, cinema and information centre
  • All there is to know on 20th and 21st centuries art : major artists and less famous ones, great artistic movements of the past hundred years

The George Pompidou national modern art museum was named after the president who wished for its construction. He was a great admirer of contemporary art himself and wanted to reconcile the people with the art of their time. When it opened in 1977, its architect went through a big controversy as the place was nicknamed « Notre Dame of the Pipework », it is now an emblem of Paris and its collection is famous worldwide.

The collection of Beaubourg is so impressive that they often change the exhibition of artworks as we can not display them all at once. During your guided tour you will start with the great art movements of the beginning of the 20th century such as fauvism, expressionism, surrealism, cubism and find out more about famous artists like Matisse, George Braque, Duchamp, Kandinsky… then you will get to know more about contemporary art with Warhol, Soulages, Rothko, Richter only to mention a few.
